Feb 4, 2009 -- Topeka, Kans. -- Senate Bill 169, adding “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” to Kansas’ current non-discrimination statute, was referred favorably, on a five to three vote, to the full Senate for consideration. Current Kansas law prohibits workplace discrimination based on race, religion, color, sex, disability, national origin or ancestry.  |
The Metropolitan Community Church of Topeka (MCC) will celebrate it's 29th anniversary on Feb. 27 and 28. On February 27 a banquet dinner will be served at 6 pm, followed by a bluegrass concert at
7:30 pm featuring the band Stringbucklers. Whole Event Tickets are $20; Tickets for concert only are $15. On Sunday Feb 28, there will be a special service at 10 am with Pastor Paul leading the music. Speaker will be Rev. Bonnie Daniels, district coordinator.

| PFLAG of Lawrence and Topeka meeting on April 11th has been cancelled. This is because members hopefully will be attending the PFLAG Regional Conference in Prairie Village, Ks. The next meeting will be June 6th. Possible speaker is Tom Witt, lobbyist for KEC. |

Heartland Men's Chorus will perform at the Grace Episcopal Cathedral, 8th and Polk, Topeka, on Friday, May 7 at 7:30 pm. They will sing a musical documentary, "And Justice for All". A free will offering will be taken for the support of the Topeka AIDS Project.  |
